Magic Valley Aeromodelers LLC
Meeting Minutes September 2025
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM 16members present
Treasurer’s Report:
$7,740.82
Maintenance Report:
No Report.
Safety Report:
We had two prop/finger incidents this past month at the field. One involved an electric motor and the other a glow engine. One individual needed surgery and a skin graft to repair the damage and other exposed some tendons on the back of his hand. Some reminders following these incidents: take off the prop if you are making esc adjustments, use a throttle kill switch and only activate the “on” position when you are ready for the motor to run, use the forks on the table to hold your plane in position when adjusting the engine, tuck in your shirt and watch out for loose lanyards. You should probably not wear a neck tie at the field.
Be aware that incidents of this nature need to be reported back to AMA. Our Safety Officer stated that from now on you’ll need to write your own report provided you have any fingers left. I suppose you can always dictate it.
Training Report:
Nothing new to report.
Old Business:
Kim passed around pictures from the Veteran’s Lunch display at the Airshow. Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a huge success.
New Business:
John Jenkins made a proposal to create a fund to get the pump, sprinkler system, and grass back up and running at the field. He is looking for donation commitments from individuals who would like to contribute. Once established, the money would be in the club treasury, but separate from normal funds used to maintain the field. If you are interested in participating, contact John at (208) 961-1773. It is estimated that around $15-$20 thousand will be enough to make this project happen. Discussion of pump life, well depth, drought resistant grass, etc took place.
Web Page:
Andrew made a presentation on the new website including login instructions and hints. Take a look at the site: mvaeromodelers.com. Get back to Andrew or Kim T if your information is incorrect or missing on the site.
Bill will continue to email meeting minutes for a few more months, before switching to posting them exclusively on the web site. The July and August minutes are already posted. The September minutes will also be posted.
Member Notes:
Kelly Fairbanks was awarded pilot of the month honors for his proficiency in flying helicopters, 3-D planes, and assistance to other members at the field. Congrats Kelly. You have a nice photo waiting for you.
Bill Eberlein will organize a night fly for Saturday September 27th. The sun sets around 7:30 so light up a plane, heli, drone, etc and get ready to generate some UFO reports. Prior to the night fly, at 6:00, we will partake in a potluck dinner for anyone who wants to come early to eat and/ or fly before dark. Bring your own main course and a side dish or dessert to share. Allen C will make sure there is plenty of propane for the grill. Grill masters will be present to cook your steak, burger, or whatever for you if choose.
These are about as much fun as a float fly, so be sure to come out even if you don’t have a night flyer. Several of my non-flying friends always ask when we’ll be having another night fly. So bring some innocent bystanders if you can talk them in to it.
Raffle:
We took in around $117.00 in raffle ticket sales.
Next meeting is Wednesday October 1st.
