What is Model Aviation?
Model aviation is the hobby and sport of building and flying miniature aircraft. These model aircraft can range from simple hand-launched gliders to complex, radio-controlled (RC) planes powered by electric motors, internal combustion engines, or even small jet turbines.
There are several types of model aviation, including:
Free Flight (FF): Aircraft that fly without external control once launched.
Control Line (CL): Aircraft tethered to a fixed-length cable, allowing for controlled movement.
Radio Control (RC): Aircraft remotely controlled using a transmitter and receiver system.
Model aviation is popular among hobbyists, engineers, and competitive pilots. Many enthusiasts participate in events and competitions organized by groups like the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). It also serves as a training ground for aspiring aeronautical engineers and commercial pilots.
